Quincy Man Set Raccoon On Fire In Backyard: Report

A Quincy man has been charged with animal cruelty after police said they saw him trying to burn a raccoon alive in his backyard, reports said.

A 63-year-old Quincy man is accused of intentionally putting a trapped raccoon over a fire in his backyard, reports said. The animal pictured is not the one that was allegedly harmed.

Andrew Chieu, 63, was arrested on Saturday, Dec. 30, when Quincy police were called to his Royal Street home to break up a dispute between him and a neighbor, NBC Boston reported. Officers found a raccoon in a trap with severe burns and a fire burning in the backyard.

Police received a video of Chieu building a fire inside a can and placing a trap atop the flames with a live raccoon inside, the report continued.

Calls to Quincy police and Quincy Animal Control, who took custody of the injured animal, were not immediately returned.

The raccoon survived, but the severity of its injuries was not released.
